Course Structure and Units

The 22250VIC Certificate I in EAL (Access) requires the completion of 8 units which are made up of 1 core unit, 1 core speaking and listening units, 1 core reading and writing units, 2 language skills units and 3 elective units.

Core Unit:

VU21454    Plan language learning with support

Core Speaking and Listening Units:

VU21451    Participate in short simple exchanges

Core Reading and Writing Units:

VU21449    Read and write short simple messages and forms

Core Language Skill Units:

VU21450    Give and respond to short, simple verbal instructions and information
VU21448    Read and write short, simple informational and instructional texts

General Elective Units:

VU21445    Locate health and medical information

VU21447    Read and Write shirt, simple Descriptive and Narrative texts

VU20939   Recognise and Interpret safety Signs and Symbols

Entry Requirements

The language entry requirement for this course is ISLPR 1.

Course Outcomes

This course is suitable for a person who wants to increase their confidence when listening, speaking, reading and writing in English.  This includes developing the skills to learn, to learn about Australian society and participate in your community.

Training Arrangements

The program is delivered at LAF’s College of Vocational Education training centre.
The training consists of trainer-led theory classes.

Classes

Classes will start at 9am and complete at 4pm.
Classes will be for 2.5 days.

Additional Support

LAF has policies that include reasonable adjustment and access and equity principles.
Reasonable adjustment at LAF is designed to ensure that a student is not presented with unnecessary barriers to demonstrating achievement in the program of study.  Reasonable adjustments may include the use of additional educational support, and alternative methods of assessment such as oral assessment.
LAF also offers its students the opportunity to access a bi-lingual (Vietnamese) interpreter to support students with course content where it is appropriate.
Students with disabilities are encouraged to enroll in this course and will be appropriately supported.

Assessment will include the following;

•    Speaking

Skills Recognition

Students may apply for recognition of existing qualifications (credit transfer) as per LAF College recognition policies and procedures. LAF does not offer recognition of prior learning for this course.

Education Pathways

Students who complete this course may wish to further their study can enroll into 22251VIC Certificate II in EAL (Access).

Fee for service students:

Tuition fees: $3,000

No administration fee.

How to Enrol/Apply

This course is available by direct entry by speaking to the Campus Manager at the College’s head office.

Student Orientation

Students will participate in an orientation program which will go for 1 day starting at 9am and finishing at 4pm. This orientation program is compulsory for all students.
