The 22253VIC Course III in EAL (Access) requires the completion of 8 units which are made up of 1 core unit, 1 core speaking and listening unit, 1 core reading and writing units, 2 language skills and 3 electives.

Core Unit:

VU21323    Develop and document a learning plan and portfolio

Core Speaking and Listening Unit:

VU21466    Give and respond to a range of straightforward information and instructions

Core Reading and Writing Unit:

VU21468    Read and write straightforward informational and instructional texts

Core Language Skill Units:

VU21465    Engage in casual conversations and straightforward transactions
VU21469    Read and write straightforward Descriptive And Narrative texts

General Elective Units:

VU21470    Investigate issue in the Australian environment
VU21472    Investigate features of the education system in Australia
VU21471    Investigate Features of the Australian legal System

Entry Requirements

The language entry requirement for this course is ISLPR 3.

Course Outcomes

This course is suitable for a person who wants to increase their confidence when listening, speaking, reading and writing in English.  This includes developing the skills to learn, to learn about Australian society and participate in your community.

Training Arrangements

The program is delivered at LAF’s College of Vocational Education training centre.
The training consists of trainer-led theory classes and one on one training.

Classes

Classes will start at 9 am and complete at 4 pm.
Classes will be for 2. 5 days and 3 hours self-study per week.

Additional Support

LAF has policies that include reasonable adjustment and access and equity principles.
Reasonable adjustment at LAF is designed to ensure that a student is not presented with unnecessary barriers to demonstrating achievement in the program of study.  Reasonable adjustments may include the use of additional educational support and alternative methods of assessment such as oral assessment.
LAF also offers its students the opportunity to access a bi-lingual (Vietnamese) interpreter to support students with course content where it is appropriate.
Students with disabilities are encouraged to enrol in this course and will be appropriately supported.

Assessment Arrangements

Assessment will include the following;
•    Reading
•    Writing
•    Listening, and
•    Speaking

Skills Recognition

Students may apply for recognition of existing qualifications (credit transfer) as per LAF College recognition policies and procedures.  LAF does not offer recognition of prior learning for this course.

Education Pathways

Students who complete this course may wish to further their study can enrol into 22256VIC Certificate IV in EAL (Access).

Fee for service students:

Tuition fees: $3,430.00

No administration fee.

How to Enrol/Apply

This course is available by direct entry by speaking to the Campus Manager at the College’s head office.

Student Orientation

Students will participate in an orientation program which will go for 1 day starting at 9 am and finish at 4 pm.  This orientation program is compulsory for all students.
